Skardu
Deep in Baltistan, northeast of Gilgit, Skardu serves as the main gateway to K2 and the Karakoram range. Famous for its alpine lakes like Shangrila and Satpara, ancient forts, and access to Shigar and Khaplu valleys.
Lahore
Located in eastern Punjab near the Indian border, Lahore is Pakistan’s second-largest city and cultural heart. Home to the Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, Shalimar Gardens, and some of the country’s best street food.
Karachi
Situated on the Arabian Sea in southern Sindh, Karachi is Pakistan’s largest city and economic center. Offers beaches, colonial-era architecture, bustling markets, and a lively food and arts scene.
Hunza Valley
A scenic mountain valley in Gilgit-Baltistan near the China border, along the legendary Karakoram Highway. Known for dramatic peaks, Baltit and Altit Forts, crystal-clear rivers, and the warm hospitality of its people.
Islamabad
Pakistan’s serene, modern capital at the base of the Margalla Hills in northern Punjab. Offers clean streets, contemporary architecture, Faisal Mosque, hiking trails, and access to Murree and Taxila.
Taxila
Located just 35 km from Islamabad in Punjab, Taxila is one of the most significant archaeological sites in South Asia. Visitors can explore ancient Buddhist monasteries, stupas, and a detailed museum showcasing Gandhara art.
Fairy Meadows

Peshawar
Located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near the Afghanistan border, Peshawar is one of South Asia’s oldest living cities. Known for its historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Bala Hissar Fort, and rich Pashtun culture rooted in centuries of trade and tradition.
Mohenjo-daro
Near Larkana in Sindh, about 90 minutes from Sukkur, this is one of the world’s oldest planned cities. A UNESCO World Heritage site with 5,000-year-old ruins, including the Great Bath, streets, and residential blocks.
Multan
Located in southern Punjab, Multan is one of the oldest cities in the subcontinent. Known for its grand Sufi shrines, blue-tiled mausoleums, bazaars, and rich spiritual heritage.
The name “India” itself comes from the Indus River, which flows through present-day Pakistan — the cradle of one of the world’s oldest civilizations: the Indus Valley Civilization. Cities like Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa, located in Pakistan, were once thriving urban centers long before modern borders existed. This land, rich in ancient wisdom, trade, and architecture, formed the foundation of South Asian identity. What many see as the cultural heart of historic India — from Sufi shrines to ancient temples, from the Gandhara Buddhist sites to Mughal-era marvels — still lives and breathes in Pakistan today. A journey here isn’t just a tour, it’s a return to the roots of the subcontinent’s story — the real India, preserved in its raw, untouched beauty.
From the ancient Indus Valley Civilization to the powerful Mughal Empire and the birth of a modern nation in 1947, Pakistan’s history is a journey through time, culture, and heritage. The land holds centuries of stories carved in forts, shrines, and archaeological wonders. Long story short: the trip was so amazing, I recommended the itinerary to all my friends and colleagues as soon as I returned.
Discovering Pakistan was very helpful throughout the trip, including visa application and packing for winter. Our dedicated tour guides in Skardu, Farhan and Gulfam, went out of their way to make sure we not only see the most breathtaking sights–from snowy mountain peaks, frozen waterfalls, cold deserts to ancient castle ruins and forts—but also have the best food, souvenirs, and pictures to cherish in our memories. It was truly an experience of a lifetime.
Another memorable point is how friendly and genuine the locals were. Everywhere we went in Islamabad, Skardu, and Lahore, people were curious in getting to know us. Unlike some other touristic destinations where many locals would try to sell us things (in my experience), in Pakistan it felt like the people were genuinely trying to get us immersed in the culture without demanding anything in return. I was really touched by the kindness shown to me and my friend traveling there and I wish more people could see this side of Pakistan.
That said, I do want to caveat that this itinerary has a lot of variables to consider for planning. Winter Skardu could be as cold as -20C at night. Flights are often changed or cancelled on short notice. For those with less flexible schedules, it’d be wise to account for this and communicate with the Discovering Pakistan team for the mitigation plans and potential contingencies.
